Minority Business Enterprise (MBE) Certification Award

Overview

The NMSDC Minority Business Enterprise (MBE) Certification is a nationally recognized credential that verifies a business is at least 51% owned, operated, and controlled by eligible minority owners. It is run by the National Minority Supplier Development Council (NMSDC), and companies pursue it to gain access to corporate supplier diversity programs, contracting opportunities, and NMSDC’s nationwide network. Credibility signals include NMSDC’s longstanding 50+ year history, documented ownership/ethnicity requirements, and a formal review process through its national certification system and local affiliate councils.

Eligibility Requirements

• Business must be at least 51% owned, operated, and controlled by one or more individuals who are U.S. citizens and members of a recognized minority group
• Recognized minority groups include Asian-Indian, Asian-Pacific, Black, Hispanic, or Native American under NMSDC certification standards
• Applicant must provide proof of citizenship and eligible minority ethnicity for at least 51% ownership
• Applicant must provide Federal Tax ID (EIN) and required business formation/governing documents
